Redwood Summer officially ended last Monday with a three-day event called “Redwoodstock.” Approximately 500 persons gathered near Fernbridge for music and, Monday, a march to the Pacific Lumber mill in Fortuna to protest corporate theft. The marchers walked a four-and-a-half mile gauntlet of moronic insults, eggs, and occasional rocks thrown at them. The summer-ending demo was apparently planned by Jim Squatter and David Kemnitzer of Seeds of Peace. The weekend events were widely criticized by many enviro-activists as poorly planned and overly burdened by counterculture types. Unlike the Samoa and Fort Bragg events, this final demo seemed almost deliberately calculated to alienate public opinion. Squatter and Kemnitzer should stick to feeding people…
